I try to write in basic english so translators can translate it.
With server down, I had time to google-translate all the post, so I wanted to say my idea about what I have read.
I am new here, playing since 2 or so weeks, even with the language barrier.
I used to play different games, on different servers, in different languages.
I have learnt portuguese while playing on brazilian servers - I am italian so it is easy to learn another neolatin language -.
I have learnt english playing online games more than studying it at school.
So, I have no prejudice or discrimination about any country or about any language.
Also, all the hate for americans is something I didnt notice in game, honestly. Also, speaking english online doesnt mean being american.
Instead I have got much help by people who understand even a bit of english, in translating my requests to russian and help me buying items to progress in game. That is what mainly amazed me and made me say 'FUCK THE LANGUAGE BARRIERS, COMMUNITY IS COOL, I WANNA PLAY HERE'.
Community is what makes games, and community cant be found on forums, most of the time. On forums there are usually complainers, blablaers, people who has time to waste saying bullshit.
Let's put it in this way:
writing and translating cyrillic characters is way too hard. I could even open a site giving me russian keyboard and rewrite on a translator what people writes, it would make me take 10 minutes to reply 'yes I am fine' to someone asking me 'how are you'. Imagine when it comes to a whole game translation, with terms that cant be properly translated by any translator.
I could write an english guide about how to register, how to vote, how to start playing. I have tried to do it on my youtube channel, I will try to do even more if I get asked from my followers.
Fact is that stressing my eyes I have actually got all the runes for my toon, gems, identified stats and I know what to do, where to go, how to do it and so on. But not everyone would have my patience.
Thinking about how hard is to make an english patch for a double client related to same server:
1) it should be possible.
2) from what I have found out, talking with some friends with more knowledge than me, language on fw is hardcoded on server datas, so it can be manually switched client side only if there's an option given by the database.
3) on other games changing language required the switch of some .pck files in client (it is considerable client modifying, it is permabannable somewhere but actually it is not detectable in any way and does not harm the server, but I dont know if it is also doable on fw).
4) I have played on a private server of blade and soul, that server originally was russian but community made -with authorization from server owner- an english patch and english patcher and an english version of the web site, this is just an example.
So far, best thing to do would be making a patcher to let english speaking players change their client language to english. Not even the whole client, just rune names, talents (tree / soul power / awakening) names and descriptions, skills (pets/classes) descriptions and names. Identified stats would just require a small guide where to write in example 'critical def = ....... the words in russian for it'. It is not that much work, but it would defenitely pull players here. More players, plus donations open worldwide, server would get more money to provide better contents. It would defenitely make everyone happier I think.
Sincerely,
Priestige
ps: I am truly sorry for how aria staff treated some of you when they asked for russian patch, but the problem is that russian is not an international language like english is. Also, making a russian language patch would have meant that later they had to do a pinoy and a viet language patch, considering the community composition of aria. Defenitely not worth.
Leaving a good server like this in just russian language, would be a waste, first of all for who owns it.
